meeting of Integrative Medicine at Brown, a forum at Brown University
for interdisciplinary collaboration in integrative medicine.
Sponsored by the Department of Family Medicine at Brown Medical School,
the forum takes place at the Physician's Auditorium at Memorial Hospital
of Rhode Island on 111 Brewster Street in Pawtucket. For
The format of each evening is as follows: 6:00 p.m. refreshments
and networking; 6:30 p.m. case presentation by a pre-selected caregiver
from either a conventional or holistic professional background, followed
by questions and discussion from the professionally diverse group in

Sunday, February 24th, 5:00-7:00 p.m.. Workshop: "Helping Hands: How Birth Partners Can Use Touch to Provide Relief in Pregnancy and Labor". This workshop is part of the Spring 2011 Bradley Method® childbirth education class series run by Lauren Amand, AAHCC in Pawtucket, Portsmouth and Barrington RI. The Bradley Method® is a system of natural labor techniques using abdominal breathing combined with relaxation. Partners learn comfort measures, massage techniques and how to support and encourage the laboring woman through the emotional stages of labor. Registration is completed and the classes are underway. Thursday, March 15th, 6:30-9:30 p.m. and Friday, March 16th, 1:00-4:00 p.m. (repeat) Workshop: "Putting Ki Into Your Massage Practice: How to Integrate Shiatsu and Acupressure Into Full Body Massage". At the AMTA New England Regional Conference, Framingham, MA. In this hands-on workshop learn how to take traditional Asian bodywork techniques off the Shiatsu mat and into your day-to-day table massage practice. After a review of basic principles of traditional Chinese medicine and shiatsu, you will experience how these principles can inform massage therapy body mechanics, diagnostics and treatment strategies. You will also learn helpful acupressure points for common ailments and discover how to insert useful Shiatsu techniques seamlessly in table massage. Open to all massage therapists. Tuesday, September 24th, 12:00-2:00 p.m. Workshop: "Acupressure Strategies". At West Side Wellness, Providence, RI. Most people think of acupressure points as sort of buttons (e.g. "press here for headaches!") But these ancient points are richer in complexity, depth, and healing potential than is commonly understood. How can givers of acupressure get better results? This workshop teaches a variety of mind-body strategies to help participants increase their awareness of common acupoints and the effectiveness of their caregiving. For West Side Wellness staff only.
