Friday, January 24, 2014, 2:00-5:00 p.m.  Workshop: "Introduction to Acupressure and Shiatsu".  At Adams House UCR, Harvard University, Cambridge, MA.  You will learn some basic acupressure and shiatsu techniques for reducing pain, managing stress, and promoting overall wellness.  After covering the basic fundamentals of traditional Chinese medicine, you will learn acupoints most helpful for busy student lifestyles.  You will also learn simple shiatsu protocol for addressing head, neck, back, and shoulder tension, with the receiver seated.  For Harvard University undergraduates only.  For more information and to register, visit the Center for Wellness at http://cw.uhs.harvard.edu.

Wednesday, February 12, 2014, 6:00-9:00 p.m.   Workshop: "Introduction to Acupressure and Shiatsu".  Sponsored by the Center for Workforce and Community Education at the Community College of Rhode Island and held at CCRI's Warwick Campus on 400 East Avenue, Warwick, RI.  This hands-on workshop will introduce you to acupressure and shiatsu, two hands-on-healing arts with ancient roots. You will learn a set of easy-to-learn acupressure points for reducing stress and pain conditions, and a simple shiatsu routine for addressing back, neck, and shoulder pain, with the receiver sitting in a chair. You will experience how these techniques can inform massage therapy body mechanics, diagnostics and treatment strategies. The training will cover how to work helpful meridian sequences and acupoints for quickly addressing your clients' back, neck, shoulder, or hip pain. Sunday, September 21 to Sunday, November 16, 2014.  Course: "Leadership Training for Rhode Island's Holistic and Integrative Caregivers".   In this selective and intensive 40 hour, eight-week training, we will gather with other holistic and integrative caregivers from diverse backgrounds for meetings with experts from academia, hospital-based care, medical research, social entrepreneurship, and public health. We will engage with these experts on how to make the holistic and integrative healthcare sector more vibrant, fully employed, and influential.  You will complete this course with a stronger voice for advocating for holistic care; a health and wellness care vision to communicate to state leadership and the public; and the tools, support, and community to help you succeed.  Partner organizations supporting and promoting this training include: CCRI Center for Workforce and Community Education, CCRI Program in Therapeutic Massage, Chiropractic Society of Rhode Island, Rhode Island Association of Naturopathic Physicians, Rhode Island Holistic Healers Association, Breathing Time Yoga, Reflexology Association of Rhode Island, and All That Matters Yoga and Holistic Health Center. Course topics include: 1) Effective communication: speaking our truth; 2) Conflict resolution and getting to yes; 3) Cultural competency for holistic and integrative caregivers; 4) Understanding the state's healthcare landscape; 5) Developing a vision for holistic and integrative healthcare in Rhode Island; 6) Implementing hospital-based integrative healthcare programs; 7) Holistic healthcare and social enterprise; 8) Research literacy and partnership-building; 9) Effective engagement with the public and community health sectors.  Two optional one-hour site visits will be held during the course at a time to be determined by course attendees.  For information on future trainings, contact course instructor Karlo Berger at Karlo@KarloBerger.com.
