Wednesday, January 28, 2015, 6:00-9:00 p.m.  Workshop: "Introduction to Acupressure and Shiatsu".  Sponsored by the Center for Workforce and Community Education at the Community College of Rhode Island and held at CCRI's Warwick Campus on 400 East Avenue, Warwick, RI. You will learn some basic acupressure and shiatsu techniques for reducing pain, managing stress, and promoting overall wellness.  After covering the basic fundamentals of traditional Chinese medicine, you will learn acupoints most helpful for busy student lifestyles.  You will also learn simple shiatsu protocol for addressing head, neck, back, and shoulder tension, with the receiver seated.  Cost: $44 (plus a $5 registration fee).   For more information and to register, call 401-333-7070 or email scorreira@ccri.edu.   Registration code: 50178 PSEM-8040-001.  Open to the general public.

Wednesday, Febuary 25, 2015, 6:00-9:00 p.m.   Workshop: "Bringing Shiatsu and Acupressure Into Your Full Body Massage Treatments".  Sponsored by the Center for Workforce and Community Education at the Community College of Rhode Island and held at CCRI's Warwick Campus on 400 East Avenue, Warwick, RI.  This hands-on workshop will teach you how to take basic shiatsu techniques off the mat and into your day-to-day table massage practice. You will experience how these techniques can inform massage therapy body mechanics, diagnostics and treatment strategies. Wednesday, March 11, 2015, 6:00-9:00 p.m.   Workshop: "Bringing Shiatsu and Acupressure Into Your Chair Massage Treatments".  Sponsored by the Center for Workforce and Community Education at the Community College of Rhode Island and held at CCRI's Lincoln campus on 1762 Louisquisset Pike in Lincoln, RI.  This hands-on workshop will teach you shiatsu and acupressure techniques that are particularly well suited for the massage chair. The training will cover how to work helpful meridian sequences and acupoints for quickly addressing your clients' back, neck, shoulder, or hip pain. Wednesday, April 15, 2015, 6:00-9:00 p.m.   Workshop: "Acupressure Strategies".  Sponsored by the Center for Workforce and Community Education at the Community College of Rhode Island and held at URI's Feinstein Campus in the Shepard Building, 255 Westminster Street, Providence, RI.  Acupressure points are richer in complexity, depth, and healing potential than is commonly understood. How can givers of acupressure get better results? Sunday, September 20, to Sunday, November 15, 2015.  Course: "Leadership Training for Rhode Island's Holistic and Integrative Caregivers".  At CCRI Warwick and Downcity Campuses.  This selective and intensive 40 hour, eight-week training gathers together caregivers from diverse backgrounds for meetings with experts from academia, hospital-based care, medical research, social entrepreneurship, and public health. The course engages with these experts on how to make holistic and integrative healthcare more widespread, accessible, and influential in the Ocean State.  Participants will complete this course with a stronger voice for advocating for holistic care; a health and wellness care vision to communicate to state leadership and the public; and the tools, support, and community to help them succeed.  Last year's inaugural leadership Class of 2014 enjoyed talented presenters from Brigham and Women's Hospital, Dorcas International Institute of RI, Farm Fresh RI, the Green and Healthy Homes Initiative, Farmacy Herbs, the Rhode Island Department of Health, the Rhode Island Health Center Association, URI, Warren Alpert Medical School at Brown University, and other institutions. Course topics (tentatively) include: 1) Effective communication: speaking our truth; 2)  Conflict resolution and Getting to Yes; 3) Growing our cultural competency, workforce diversity, and accessibility; 4) Advocating confidently for your profession; 5) How to mainstream holistic and integrative healthcare; 6) Developing an empowering vision for holistic and integrative healthcare in Rhode Island; 7) Implementing hospital-based integrative healthcare programs; 8) Holistic healthcare and social enterprise; 9) Research literacy and partnership-building; 9) Influencing Rhode Island healthcare legislation.
